Nekeshia Deshon Washington, a 28-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on July 16, 2018, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was approached at her home on Slater Avenue and shot by a suspect who fled the scene. The incident occurred during what authorities believe was a robbery attempt. Captain Sameule Oates of the Fayetteville Police Department stated that Washington fought back during the robbery, which ultimately led to her death.
