Sircorious Briont Griffin, a 31-year-old African American male, was found dead in High Point City Lake on July 31, 2018. His body was discovered by a fisherman who alerted the authorities. Griffin had been reported missing the day before, on July 30, 2018. The police arrived at the scene around 9 a.m. and identified the body as that of Sircorious Briont Griffin.
The initial police report did not specify the exact cause of death but mentioned severe lacerations and the involvement of an undetermined firearm. The crime was classified as forcible, and the circumstances surrounding Griffin's disappearance and death were deemed suspicious, leading the police to investigate the case as a homicide.
Further investigation revealed that Griffin's body had a shotgun wound to the head, with a cluster of shotgun pellet entrance wounds about two inches below the top of his head on the left side. The autopsy report estimated at least 70 pellet entrance wounds. Additionally, Griffin's legs were bound in green plastic wrap, and a plastic bag was placed over his head. There was no evidence of any natural disease that could have caused or contributed to his death. The autopsy concluded that the cause of death was a shotgun wound to the head, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide.
The police also discovered Griffin's missing vehicle, a four-door dark 2000 Honda Passport, three days after his body was found. The vehicle was located at InTown Suites at 2860 North Main St. in High Point, following a tip received by the authorities. The discovery of the vehicle further supported the suspicion that Griffin's death was a result of foul play.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Sircorious Briont Griffin's murder.
