Carl Patrick Henry Leroy Jr., a 17-year-old male, was tragically shot and killed on August 11, 2018, in Seven Springs, North Carolina. Authorities discovered Carl with a gunshot wound at a home on Sanderson Road around 11 p.m. that night. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reported that Carl was struck by a bullet that entered the home from the outside.
Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, Carl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Carl's death led to the arrest of three suspects. Terrence Corainte Smith, a 23-year-old male from LaGrange, was charged with murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property resulting in serious bodily injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and felony conspiracy. Smith was apprehended without incident and held without bond for the murder charge, with additional bonds for other charges.
Two other suspects, Videll Alexander Wright, a 19-year-old male from Goldsboro, and Devon Alexander McCollum, a 24-year-old male from Snow Hill, were also charged with murder, felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony discharging a weapon into occupied property, and felony conspiracy. Wright faced additional charges for traffic and controlled substance violations, while McCollum faced charges of felony possession of cocaine and felony maintaining a dwelling for cocaine. Both men were held at the Wayne County Detention Center without bond for the murder charges and with substantial bonds for the other charges.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and conduct interviews to piece together the events leading up to Carl's death. The involvement of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the NC SBI Fugitive and Missing Person Task Force, the Goldsboro Police Department Vice Unit, and the Goldsboro/Wayne County Drug Unit, highlights the complexity and seriousness of the case.
