Daceion Sanders, a 15-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 22, 2019, in Greenville, North Carolina. The young teenager's death was a result of a shooting incident that occurred at 1808 B Kennedy Circle in Greenville. The shooting took place in the afternoon, around 4:37 p.m., and claimed the lives of two teenagers, including Daceion Sanders and 18-year-old Blaise Joshua Okale-Weeks.
Following the incident, the Greenville Police Department launched an
investigation and quickly identified two suspects. Raeshawn Lamont Reid, 18, and Dexter Javonta Daniels, 19, both residents of Greenville, were arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. The suspects were apprehended by the Greenville Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Unit with the assistance of the Greenville Police Emergency Response Team.
The motive behind the shootings has not been disclosed by the authorities, and the investigation is ongoing. Both suspects faced a bond set at $4 million and were scheduled to appear in court on March 13, 2019. If convicted, Reid and Daniels could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The community of Greenville mourned the loss of Daceion Sanders, who was remembered by friends and family during a Celebration of Life Service held at Philippi DOC Church. The tragic event left a lasting impact on the community, highlighting the devastating consequences of gun violence and the importance of continued efforts to address and prevent such incidents.
