The incident occurred late at night, and the Catawba County Sheriff's Office was alerted by a witness who resided at the same residence. The witness reported that Gonzalo Salinas-Cisneros, a 27-year-old male, had shot both victims.
Salinas-Cisneros was apprehended shortly after the incident, and a 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from the scene. The projectiles recovered from the victims during the autopsy were matched to the handgun found at the scene, confirming that it was the weapon used in the crime.
Salinas-Cisneros was charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Jesse Anthony Rodriguez and Brandi Amber Rodriguez. During the investigation, Salinas-Cisneros admitted to shooting both victims, claiming that there was a "bad vibe" from them. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ben Faulkenberry, and Salinas-Cisneros entered a guilty plea to the charges. On February 9, 2022, he was sentenced to serve a prison term of 26 to 33 years in the custody of the North Carolina Division of Adult Corrections. The Honorable Gregory R. Hayes, Superior Court Judge from Catawba County, imposed the prison term.
