Born on March 4, 1992, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Jose was a beloved member of his community, known for his infectious smile and love for soccer and video games. He was a graduate of Jordan Matthews High School and later completed his college education at UNC Pembroke in 2015. Jose worked as a landscaper and was a devoted father, brother, and son.
On the morning of December 20, 2020, deputies were called to a residence on Waterford Street, off of Fairfax Street, in Siler City, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found Jose Ramon Hernandez had been shot multiple times in the torso. He was immediately transported to UNC Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The incident appeared to be related to a dispute between family members.
The primary suspect in the case is Sergio "Yovani" Rodriguez, a 24-year-old male from Siler City. Rodriguez is currently wanted on charges of first-degree murder and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities have urged anyone with information about Rodriguez's whereabouts to contact the Chatham County Sheriff's Office. As of now, Rodriguez remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
