Phillip Daryl Jewell, a 41-year-old man, was found dead in his home in Huntersville, NC, on June 3, 2021. Jewell was one of three victims in a tragic triple homicide that occurred in a small mobile home community. The investigation began on June 1, 2021, when the Huntersville Police Department responded to a call for assistance at a home on Caldwell Station Road. Upon arrival, officers found 58-year-old Michael Eugene Elliot dead inside his home.
Due to the circumstances surrounding Elliot's death, a homicide investigation was launched.
The investigation continued into the next day, June 2, when officers discovered a second victim, 26-year-old Kendrick Logan Knight, in a nearby wooded area. Knight had been shot and stabbed. On June 3, detectives found Phillip Daryl Jewell, 41, dead inside his home from an apparent gunshot wound. Jewell was a member of the same mobile home community as the other two victims.
The suspect in the triple homicide was identified as 21-year-old Michael Jacob Matocha. Matocha was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside Jewell's home. Matocha was reportedly friends with Knight, who knew both Elliot and Jewell. However, Matocha did not live in the mobile home park. The motive for the crime remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
