Erskine Reginald Lawrence, a 50-year-old African American man from Severn, North Carolina, tragically died on June 14, 2021. Lawrence was found in the yard of his residence on Mills Street by members of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office. The medical examiner determined that he died from gunshot wounds to his abdomen. Governor Roy Cooper announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Lawrence's murder. Despite extensive efforts by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved. Lawrence's family has also offered a separate $5,000 reward for information that could help solve the case.
