Joshua Silvers, a 27-year-old man from Candler, North Carolina, was tragically shot and killed outside his home on Davis Drive on July 26, 2021. The incident occurred around midnight, and authorities quickly responded to the scene. Silvers was found with multiple gunshot wounds, and despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Silvers' death led to the arrest of three individuals. Alexus Buckner, an 18-year-old woman from Candler, was the first to be charged with first-degree murder. Buckner, who was in a relationship with Silvers, was taken into custody without bond. The authorities also arrested Terrick Tyree Eddington, a 20-year-old man from Asheville, and James Edward Benson Jr., an 18-year-old man from Asheville. Both Eddington and Benson were charged with first-degree murder in connection with Silvers' death.
The case saw significant developments over the following years. In October 2023, James Benson Jr. pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to 64-89 months in prison. The first-degree murder charge against Alexus Buckner was eventually dropped in July 2024. The charges against the third defendant, Terrick Tyree Eddington, were also dropped.
