Latasha S. Tennill Tomlin, a 44-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on August 31, 2021, in Elm City, North Carolina. The incident occurred as she was attempting to move out of the home she shared with her boyfriend, Adrian Tynrell Horne. During the move, an argument ensued between Tomlin and Horne, which escalated into a violent confrontation. Horne opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Tomlin and her 21-year-old son, Raekwon Tyleek Williams. Tomlin's 18-year-old daughter, Fredia Williams, and Raekwon's 18-year-old girlfriend, Lakiyah Williams, were also shot during the incident.
Adrian Tynrell Horne, 43, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder, among other charges. The charges stemmed from the shooting on London Church Road, where Tomlin and her family were helping her move out. Horne fled the scene in a black Buick sedan with Tomlin and Raekwon's 8-month-old child. The vehicle was later found abandoned in southern Edgecombe County, with Tomlin's body inside and the baby unharmed.
The investigation revealed that Horne's brother, Timothy Horne, assisted him in escaping the scene. Timothy Horne was subsequently arrested and charged with four counts of accessory after the fact. The tragic incident left the family devastated, with Fredia Williams in critical condition after being shot eight times and Lakiyah Williams recovering from a gunshot wound to her back.
Latasha Tomlin's death highlighted the dangers of domestic violence and the devastating impact it can have on families. Her mother, Shirley Tomlin, shared that Latasha had been in an abusive relationship with Horne for some time, and the family had tried to intervene. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to prevent the tragic outcome.
