of a deceased male at approximately 9:00 a.m. on September 24, 2021. Preliminary reports indicated that Haskins suffered from gunshot wounds sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. The investigation into his death was ongoing, with detectives awaiting results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
On February 5, 2022, Chris Emmanuel Wiggins, a 26-year-old male from Atlanta, was arrested in Raleigh in connection with the murder of Jamel Ramel Haskins. Wiggins faced several charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held in the Wake County Jail without bond. The arrest stemmed from the killing of Haskins, who was found dead on the side of a central North Carolina road on September 24, 2021.
