Jose Antonia Jimenez Quinones, a 52-year-old Hispanic male, tragically lost his life on August 4, 2022, in Lowell, North Carolina. The incident occurred when Quinones, who was returning home from work, encountered a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Redbud Drive and Wilkinson Boulevard. As a good Samaritan, he stepped out of his vehicle to assist a 16-year-old driver involved in the wreck.
Unfortunately, the young driver, Tyrin Dudley, pulled out a gun and shot Quinones, resulting in his immediate death.
The investigation revealed that Dudley, who was a juvenile at the time, had stolen a gun from a friend. On the night of the incident, Dudley fired a shot from the car he was in, which led to the crash. Quinones, witnessing the crash and seeing Dudley struggling to get out of the wrecked car, attempted to help. It was during this act of kindness that Dudley shot Quinones in the heart, causing a fatal injury.
Dudley was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident and was charged with second-degree murder. Due to his age, his name was initially withheld, but he was later tried as an adult. In October 2024, Dudley, now 18, pleaded guilty to the murder of Jose Antonia Jimenez Quinones and was sentenced to serve between 13 to 16.6 years in prison.
The death of Quinones left a significant void in his family, who described him as a loving and helpful individual. His son, Marco Jimenez, expressed gratitude that Dudley was facing consequences for his actions, but also highlighted the irreplaceable loss their family had suffered. Quinones' wife, Maria Enriquez, tearfully recounted their last moments together, emphasizing the profound impact of his untimely death on their family.
