This injury required her to undergo a throat dilation procedure at least once a year to prevent scar tissue from dangerously constricting her throat, a procedure she had already undergone over 200 times. To safely receive the anesthesia for her next scheduled surgery in August 2016, she needed to be drug-free. Initially, Loridee seemed to be responding well to the treatment program. Her sister recalled a phone conversation with her on the very day she disappeared, during which Loridee sounded optimistic about her progress. However, just hours after that hopeful call, Loridee left the facility through a ground-floor window and was never seen or heard from again. The staff at the Rainforest Recovery Center notified her family the following day, prompting them to immediately travel to Juneau to begin a desperate search. Her family was deeply concerned, not only because of her struggles with addiction but also because of the life-threatening complications that would arise from missing her scheduled throat surgery. Loridee's family, particularly her father, spearheaded an exhaustive search. He spent extensive time in Juneau, distributing flyers, speaking with people at homeless shelters, and checking with the public transit system, airlines, and ferries. He even went so far as to hire a local resident to continue the search in his absence. Despite these tireless efforts and a missing person report filed with the Juneau Police Department, no significant leads have ever emerged. Loridee has missed years of the critical medical procedures she needs to survive, a fact that greatly compounds her family's fear for her well-being.
