Deputy Ned Byrd, a 48-year-old, tragically passed away on August 11, 2022, while serving in the Wake County Sheriff's Office in Raleigh, North Carolina. Byrd, who had served as a detention officer and later as a K9 officer, was shot multiple times while investigating suspicious activity on Battle Bridge Road near Auburn Knightdale Road. The autopsy report revealed that he was shot three times in the head and once in the chest, with the chest wound piercing through his protective vest.
