LaMichael Jammual Everette, a 29-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 23, 2022, in Tarboro, North Carolina. Everette was found suffering from a gunshot wound off Tolbert Place in Princeville, a residential area off U.S. 64. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire early Sunday morning around 1 a.m. Deputies arrived at the scene around 3 a.m.
and found Everette, who later succumbed to his injuries.
The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into Everette's death, treating it as a homicide. Initially, no suspects were announced, and the investigation continued without any immediate arrests. However, as the investigation progressed, two individuals were charged in connection with Everette's murder. Rameik Anderson was charged with first-degree murder and felony conspiracy, while Jayla Quatia Hyman faced charges of felony conspiracy and accessory before the fact to a felony.
Anderson was already in custody in Wilson County when he was charged with Everette's murder. He was given no bond on his new charges pending his first appearance. Hyman, on the other hand, was arrested by the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office and placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 secured bond.
Everette's death was one of two separate shootings that occurred in Edgecombe County over the same weekend. The other shooting, which took place on Thigpen Road in Conetoe, resulted in the death of another individual. Both shootings happened about seven miles apart and were investigated as homicides by the sheriff's office.
The community of Tarboro mourned the loss of LaMichael Jammual Everette, who was remembered as a loving father, son, and friend. His death highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in the area and the need for continued efforts to address and prevent such tragedies.
