Sheriff Henry S. Burkhalter, age 45, was the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office's dedicated law enforcement officer in Louisiana. On April 7, 1899, Sheriff Burkhalter tragically lost his life due to an accidental shooting. He was riding with a posse in search of several family members wanted for murder.
