Deputy Sheriff Kathleen Angie Briscoe, aged 41, tragically died on September 7, 1988, in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. She was assisting another deputy during a burglary call on Westbank Expressway in Gretna when the incident occurred. During the struggle, Deputy Briscoe, who was off-duty at the time, lost her balance and fell over a guardrail. Her weapon discharged, striking her in the head. She was rushed to West Jefferson Hospital but succumbed to her injuries two days later.
