Cleophus Greene III, a 17-year-old African American male from St. Rose, tragically lost his life on May 24, 1998, in Destrehan, Louisiana. Greene was attending a graduation party for Destrehan High School students when the incident occurred. The event, which was meant to be a joyous celebration, turned violent when a group of uninvited guests arrived. Greene heroically stepped in front of a bullet aimed at an adult chaperone, saving the chaperone's life but succumbing to his injuries himself.
