In the early morning hours of September 14, 2014, a dispute at a local bar in Assumption Parish, Louisiana, tragically cut short the life of 33-year-old Franky Joseph. The male victim was at the Alexis Sports Bar on Highway 308 in Paincourtville when an altercation erupted between him and another patron, Matthew Jordan III.
Security guards at the establishment intervened in the initial physical confrontation, separating the two men and instructing them to leave the property.
However, the conflict was far from over. A short time later, Jordan returned from the vicinity of his vehicle, this time armed with a. 40 caliber Ruger handgun. A second struggle broke out between Jordan and Joseph, centering on the firearm. During this scuffle, the gun discharged, and a single bullet struck Franky Joseph in the abdomen. He was rushed to the Assumption Community Hospital, but his injury proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Matthew Jordan III fled the scene. However, his freedom was short-lived. Later that same day, his own family members escorted him to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office. Jordan surrendered the handgun used in the shooting and admitted to his involvement in the death of Franky Joseph. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
On April 4, 2017, Matthew Jordan III, then 28 years old, entered a guilty plea to the charge of manslaughter as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Following this plea, on July 5, 2017, a judge sentenced him for his role in the shooting death of Franky Joseph.
