In the late summer of 2016, the community of Bastrop, Louisiana, was rocked by the tragic death of 15-year-old Raymerio Lee, an African American male. The distressing chain of events began on August 17, 2016, when Lee was reported missing. A day later, a grim discovery was made in a wooded area situated at the end of Shady Oaks Street in West Bastrop.
An unidentifiable body had been found, and it was through an autopsy that the remains were confirmed to be those of the missing teenager.
Investigators quickly determined that Lee’s death was a homicide. The location where his body was found was not the scene of the crime, leading police to believe that he had been killed elsewhere and his body subsequently dumped in the secluded, wooded area. At the outset of the investigation, authorities had no immediate suspects or persons of interest, leaving the community on edge and a grieving family searching for answers. The case was a somber mystery that lingered over the town.
For nearly a year, the investigation into Raymerio Lee’s murder continued. A significant breakthrough finally came on August 23, 2017. On that day, an arrest was made in connection with the teen’s death. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Roderick D. Adams, a resident of Bastrop. At the time he was charged with Lee's murder, Adams was already incarcerated at the Morehouse Parish jail on unrelated charges. The charges brought against Adams in this case were severe: second-degree murder and armed robbery, suggesting a violent and calculated crime that cut short a young life.
