In the Gentilly neighborhood, around 10:15 p.m., violence erupted in the 2400 block of Athis Street, resulting in a double shooting that would leave one man dead and another wounded. First responders arrived to a grim scene, finding Berry on the front lawn of a residence and another man inside the home, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were alive when emergency services reached them and were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Aldorrien Berry succumbed to his injuries the following day, on August 26, 2017. The investigation into the shooting was immediately launched by the New Orleans Police Department, who began the arduous task of piecing together the events of that fatal night.
