While he sat waiting in his vehicle, he was approached by a man on a bicycle, later identified as
24-year-old Torus 'T-Man' Wallace. An argument ensued over the outstanding debt, a sum that Rene had been previously threatened over. The confrontation escalated with devastating speed as Wallace produced a. 45-caliber pistol and fired a single shot through the passenger side window of Rene's vehicle. The bullet struck Rene in the right forearm before fatally piercing his upper chest. Despite the grave injury, Rene managed to drive a short distance before succumbing to the wound in a nearby parking lot.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office quickly launched an investigation into the homicide. A crucial tip and an eyewitness identification pointed them toward Torus Wallace as the primary suspect.
