An 18-year-old African American student from Southern University, Kyrianna “Kyri” Harris, was fatally shot on the night of Saturday, May 16, 2020, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. A native of St. James, Harris was in the Donaldsonville Village area when gunfire erupted, leaving her deceased at the scene.
During the incident, another woman, 25-year-old Courtney Allen, sustained a gunshot wound. Allen was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was subsequently released.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office responded to multiple calls regarding the shooting and initiated a homicide investigation into the weekend violence.
In the days following the shooting, authorities announced that their investigation was ongoing. However, no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the death of Kyrianna Harris.
