Rondrikus Fulton, 44, was killed on November 27, 2020, in the Bunkie area of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He was a Black man, and the date that should have been an ordinary late-autumn Friday instead became the dividing line his family and community would measure everything against.
In the months that followed, investigators and prosecutors focused their case on one man: Peter John Bazile.
Bazile was accused of murdering Fulton, and the allegation rose to one of Louisiana’s most serious homicide charges, second-degree murder, setting the stage for a courtroom fight over what happened and what could be proven beyond doubt.
By August 18, 2023, that fight reached its turning point. After a second-degree murder trial in Avoyelles Parish, jurors deliberated for about an hour before returning a unanimous verdict: not guilty.
