In the fall of 2021, the life of 37-year-old Pamela Adair was violently cut short in a tragic series of events that unfolded across multiple parishes in Louisiana. On October 9th, her home in Livingston was invaded by an armed man, forever altering the lives of her and her loved ones. Pamela, along with her significant other, Joseph Schexnayder, were both shot multiple times. While Schexnayder was critically injured but survived, Pamela succumbed to her wounds, leaving behind three children.
Two of her children, the youngest aged 13 and 15, were present in the home at the time of the horrific incident.
The man responsible for this senseless act was identified as Matthew Mire. His violent rampage did not begin or end with the attack on Adair and Schexnayder. Earlier that same day, Mire had shot two other individuals at a mobile home park in Livingston Parish and had stolen a vehicle. Following the shooting at Adair's residence, Mire's crime spree continued, culminating in the fatal shooting of Master Trooper Adam Gaubert of the Louisiana State Police. A massive manhunt ensued, eventually leading to Mire's capture.
In the aftermath, the legal process moved forward, bringing some measure of closure to the victims' families. Matthew Mire was charged with a litany of crimes, including the murders of Pamela Adair and Master Trooper Adam Gaubert, as well as multiple counts of attempted murder. After being found competent to stand trial, Mire ultimately pleaded guilty to all charges against him. In July 2025, he was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences, in addition to nearly 350 years in prison, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole. During the legal proceedings, Mire provided a confession, detailing his actions on that fateful day and taking full responsibility for the lives he had taken and irrevocably changed.
