In what has been described as an 'absolute tragedy,' 29-year-old Alec Mulvihill, a male New Orleans firefighter, died on or around June 13, 2022. The incident occurred at a residence on Dupre Street in Mandeville. Mulvihill’s death was the culmination of a violent episode believed to be connected to a mental health crisis.
On the evening of Sunday, June 12, 2022, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the Mandeville home.
Inside, they discovered both Mulvihill and his 25-year-old colleague, Kyle Webber, suffering from gunshot wounds. Webber, who was hospitalized for his injuries, was reportedly trying to help Mulvihill through a mental health crisis when Mulvihill shot him before turning the gun on himself. Mulvihill was identified as the deceased by the St. Tammany Parish coroner.
The two men were not only coworkers at the same fire station in New Orleans East but also friends. According to family members of Webber, he was attempting to de-escalate the situation and assist his friend when the shooting occurred. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office stated they did not have reason to believe anyone else was involved in the incident. Consequently, there have been no arrests or outstanding suspects in the case, as it has been determined to be a murder-suicide.
