James W. Brown, a 54-year-old white male, met a tragic end on October 29, 1901, in Cahokia, Illinois. Brown, who served as a Special Officer for the Mobile and Ohio Railroad Police Department, was engaged in his duties when he encountered a group of men involved in criminal activities.
