Richard Earl Dick Ehlenfeldt, a 50-year-old Caucasian male, tragically lost his life on January 8, 1993, in Palatine, Illinois. He and his wife, Lynn Anne Wiese Ehlenfeldt, were the owners of the Brown's Chicken restaurant in Palatine. On that fateful night, Richard and six other employees were brutally murdered during an armed robbery. The assailants, Juan Luna and James Degorski, entered the restaurant and shot the victims execution-style before stuffing their bodies into walk-in freezers.
The motive behind the crime was robbery, and the perpetrators took approximately $1,800 to $1,900 from the restaurant. The case remained unsolved for nearly nine years until one of the assailants, Juan Luna, was implicated by his girlfriend in 2002. Subsequently, DNA evidence linked Luna to the crime scene, leading to his arrest and conviction. James Degorski was also arrested and later found guilty of the murders. Both Luna and Degorski were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
