On November 16, 1995, Debra Evans, a 28-year-old African American woman from Addison, Illinois, was tragically murdered in her apartment. Debra was nine months pregnant with her fourth child, whom she had planned to name Elijah. She was the mother of three children: 10-year-old Samantha, 8-year-old Joshua, and 19-month-old Jordan.
