He graduated from East High School in 2003 and was deeply cherished by his family and friends.

Rockford. The gathering turned violent when a fight broke out, leading to a chaotic scene where multiple gunshots were fired. Charles was one of six individuals shot during the incident. He was attempting to flee the mayhem when he was fatally shot. The police arrived to find four gunshot victims at the scene, while two others had already been taken to local hospitals.
The investigation into Charles Spivey's murder led to the arrest of three men: Antwan T. Maxey, Clifford Horton, and Lamont A. Cole. All three were alleged members of the Moe Street Gang and were charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses. Witnesses testified that the suspects arrived at the party in a maroon car, armed with guns, and were involved in the altercation that escalated into gunfire.
Antwan T. Maxey, 26 at the time, was arrested on August 10, 2011, and charged with Charles Spivey's murder. Despite the dismissal, Maxey remained in prison for violating his parole from a previous theft conviction. Clifford Horton and Lamont A. Cole also faced charges in connection with the murder.
