In the late summer of 2011, the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston was struck by a wave of violence that claimed the life of 32-year-old Omar Edwards, an African-American male. On the evening of August 26th, Edwards was fatally shot at 18 Hosmer Street, a tragic event that contributed to the city's increasing homicide rate for the year. His death was one of several violent incidents that troubled the communities of Dorchester and Mattapan during that period.
