Manuel Gonzalez, a 29-year-old male from Logan Square, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Delgado's death. Gonzalez was also charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting at two other individuals who were with Delgado at the time of the incident. The confrontation began as a quarrel between the two groups, during which Delgado threw a punch at one of Gonzalez's associates. In response, Gonzalez pulled out a gun and shot Delgado in the head. He then fired at the other two men but missed.
Gonzalez was apprehended shortly after the shooting, and multiple witnesses identified him as the gunman. A semi-automatic handgun matching the description of the weapon used in the shooting was recovered nearby, along with four shell casings of the same caliber. Gonzalez was held on a $1 million bond and was already out on bail for a pending aggravated DUI charge at the time of the shooting. The case drew significant attention, with Delgado's family expressing their grief and anger in court.
