Do you know who murdered Daniel Bunch? Daniel P. Bunch, a 22-year-old African-American / Black male, was fatally shot on the night of Saturday, October 8, 2011. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. at a Mobil gas station situated at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Babson Street in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood. Bunch was reportedly shot multiple times at point-blank range. Following the shooting, the assailant was seen getting into a car and leaving the scene.
Despite the presence of several witnesses, many of
whom were friends of Bunch, the investigation into his murder was met with a wall of silence. For years, the case remained unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. The lack of cooperation from those present at the scene proved to be a significant obstacle for law enforcement officials trying to piece together the events of that night and bring the person responsible to justice.
In December 2017, six years after the fatal shooting, the Boston Police Department decided to reopen the case, making a renewed push for information from the public. Believing that an arrest could be made with cooperation from the community, law enforcement released a video appealing for witnesses to come forward. Around the same time, Daniel's family, still grieving their loss, announced a $10,000 reward for any information that would lead to the arrest of his killer. Police stated that they had a "strong target" in their investigation but reiterated the critical need for witnesses to step forward and provide testimony. To encourage this, they assured that the identities of anyone providing information would be protected. Despite these efforts, the case of Daniel Bunch's murder remains unsolved, and his killer has not been brought to justice.
