In the early hours of a spring day in Boston, the life of 25-year-old Joel D. Phillips, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On April 20, 2013, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Phillips was shot in the neck on Copeland Street in the Roxbury neighborhood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
