On a Sunday evening in the spring of 2013, a young African-American man named Malcolm Campbell, age 23, was fatally shot in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. on April 28th, near the intersection of Howard Avenue and Wayland Street. Residents and security guards in the vicinity reported hearing the sound of approximately six gunshots piercing the evening air.
Responding to the reports of gunfire, Boston Police officers arrived at the scene to a
chaotic situation. They observed a purple PT Cruiser speeding away from the area as they approached. Shortly thereafter, they discovered Campbell lying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately rushed to Boston Medical Center for emergency treatment, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the days and months that followed, the Boston Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide of Malcolm Campbell.
