Bernard Monroe, a 60-year-old African American man, was fatally shot on February 26, 2015, while shoveling snow in the Roseland neighborhood on Chicago's Far South Side. Monroe was known in the neighborhood as a gentle giant who often helped clear snow for his neighbors out of kindness. On the day of his death, he was shoveling the sidewalk in front of a neighbor's house when he was shot in the head.
