Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, a 52-year-old white male police lieutenant, was found dead on September 1, 2015, in a wooded area in Fox Lake, Illinois. Initially, his death was believed to be a murder, and it gained national attention. Gliniewicz had radioed that he was pursuing three suspects on foot, but when backup officers arrived, they found him with a gunshot wound.
