On a chilly Sunday evening, just as the city of Boston prepared for the Super Bowl, the life of 22-year-old Brianna Hardy, an African-American female, was tragically cut short. On February 5, 2017, at approximately 5:50 p.m., gunshots shattered the quiet of Juliette Street in the Dorchester neighborhood. Responding to a call, police discovered Hardy in her car with a gunshot wound to the head. Another individual who was with her sustained non-life-threatening injuries, reportedly from flying glass, and survived.
Hardy, a Jamaica Plain resident known to some as "Breezy," was an aspiring rapper. She was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Her death marked the fourth homicide in Boston that year. From the outset, investigators described the shooting as a "targeted" attack, suggesting that the assailant or assailants had specifically sought her out. The Boston Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
