Tina Brown, a 53-year-old African American woman, was found dead in her home in the South Chicago neighborhood on May 20, 2017. She had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Essex Avenue. Authorities quickly ruled her death a homicide, and initial investigations suggested that the shooting might have stemmed from a domestic issue.
