Steve Sanders, a 23-year-old African American male from Kankakee, Illinois, tragically lost his life on May 30, 2017. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, as confirmed by a forensic pathologist during the murder trial. The incident occurred in the 500 block of East Bourbonnais Street, where Sanders was fatally shot in an alley. The circumstances leading to the shooting involved a confrontation where the shooter, Devon Johnson, believed Sanders was reaching for a gun.
