Witnesses reported seeing the two men conversing before Jackson raised his hands and pleaded, "don't do it, don't do it." Despite Jackson's pleas, Starks shot him multiple times. Officers in the vicinity heard the gunshots and observed the Buick speeding away. During the pursuit, Starks discarded a Glock 30 pistol from the vehicle, which was later recovered by the police. Five .45-caliber casings were found around Jackson's body.
