Carlos L. Gaddy, a 34-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on March 21, 2018, in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue while Gaddy was working on a car in a backyard. According to witnesses and police reports, a gunman climbed onto a garbage bin in the alley and fired at Gaddy, striking him in the head. Gaddy was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:38 p.m.
His body was found partially covered by a sheet next to a dark-colored Buick with no license plates. The yard was strewn with auto parts, including an engine block.

Jose Feliciano, the other building owner, stated that his nephew was under the hood of the car when the gunman opened fire. Feliciano expressed that his nephew did not expect the shooting, as he would have warned others to stay away if he had.
The investigation into Gaddy's death revealed that the area had experienced numerous acts of violence since 2012. Thomas, who had witnessed many violent incidents, described the situation as "normal" and mentioned that shootings were a common occurrence in the neighborhood. The presence of a liquor store nearby was cited as a contributing factor to the frequent violence.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Carlos Gaddy's murder. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek leads and gather evidence. The community and Gaddy's family are still awaiting justice for his untimely death.
