Keshonda Monique Maxey, a 19-year-old African American woman, was tragically shot to death on October 21, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois. She was found inside a parked vehicle in the West Side Austin neighborhood, alongside 26-year-old Martice Luster, who was also fatally shot. The incident occurred at approximately 1:52 a.m. in the 100 block of North Lockwood Avenue. Maxey suffered a gunshot wound to her head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Luster, who had been struck multiple times, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died.
The couple was reportedly sitting in their car near Washington and Lockwood when an unknown assailant fired multiple shots at them. Both victims lived about a block away from where they were shot. Maxey had a 4-year-old daughter, and Luster had a 6-year-old son. Their families described them as dedicated parents who always went out of their way for others. Maxey's mother, Jacqueline "Tammy" Webb, and Luster's father, Tony Luster, expressed their grief and called for justice.
As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders. The Chicago Police Department's Area North detectives were conducting a homicide investigation. The families of the victims continue to seek answers and hope for the apprehension of those responsible for this senseless act of violence.
