Jaykuan Rogers, a 15-year-old African American boy, was tragically killed on July 22, 2019, in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. when Jaykuan and two other individuals were driving a stolen white Jeep. As they traveled through the 11400 block of South Lowe Avenue, a gunman in a passing white pickup truck opened fire on their vehicle. Jaykuan was struck multiple times in the head, while a 20-year-old man in the vehicle was hit in the back.
Both victims were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where Jaykuan was pronounced dead a few hours later. The 20-year-old man was listed in critical condition.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed that Jaykuan died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The third person in the stolen vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, was taken in for questioning by the police. Despite the severity of the incident, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Area South detectives are actively working on the case, but as of now, there are no suspects in custody.
