Gavile Jackson, an 18-year-old African American male from Mundelein, IL, was tragically shot and killed on May 28, 2020. After the shooting, Botello fled on foot, and the driver of the vehicle also fled the scene. Jackson was found suffering from life-threatening wounds and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

An arrest warrant was issued for Botello in June 2020, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder.
