Jamez Elem, a 29-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on June 27, 2020, in Roselle, Illinois. The incident occurred at a rented house on Picton Road, where a large gathering was taking place. According to reports, over 60 shots were fired during the altercation, resulting in the death of Jamez Elem and injuries to four other individuals.
The Roselle Police Department responded to the scene around 1:30 a.m. and encountered resistance as they approached the home.
They discovered Jamez Elem, who was identified by the DuPage County Coroner, dead from gunfire. The police also found one shooting victim at Bloomingdale Road and Lake Street in Bloomingdale.
The investigation revealed that the house had been rented through short-term rental platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo. Many of the attendees were from the Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago. Initial findings indicated that one person began firing a handgun inside the home, followed by several others who also started shooting.
The Roselle Police Department, along with the Metropolitan Emergency Response & Investigation Team and Forensic Unit Investigators, have been actively working on the case. They have been following up on leads and assembling physical evidence to reconstruct the events of that night. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to bring the offenders responsible to justice.
