Lavell Mathis, a 25-year-old male from Chicago, IL, was tragically killed on November 8, 2020. Mathis was walking through a vacant lot in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago when he was approached by an unknown assailant who fired multiple shots at him. Mathis suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and armpit and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner's office later ruled his death a homicide.
