Kiondria Richards, a 21-year-old African American woman from Dolton, Illinois, tragically lost her life on December 2, 2020, in a violent incident in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago. The event unfolded just before 8 p.m. when individuals inside a westbound Chevrolet fired shots toward a Kia in the 4300 block of West Roosevelt Road. The Kia, in which Kiondria Richards was a passenger, veered off the road and crashed into a fixed object.
The Chevrolet continued west and eventually crashed into another vehicle. The occupants of the Chevrolet fled the scene and have not been apprehended.
Kiondria Richards and a 23-year-old man named Nautica Banks, who was also in the Kia, died at the scene. Autopsy results revealed that both victims died from multiple injuries sustained in the crash, and their deaths were ruled homicides. Another passenger in the Kia, 25-year-old Tatiana Baker, succumbed to her injuries early the following morning at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. She had been shot in the buttocks and suffered multiple injuries from the crash. Her death was also ruled a homicide. A 25-year-old man in the Kia survived the incident and was reported to be in good condition after being treated for injuries from the crash.
The investigation into the deaths of Kiondria Richards and the other victims is ongoing. Area Four detectives are handling the case, but as of now, no arrests have been made. The four individuals who fled from the Chevrolet remain at large, and the police have not released any further information about potential suspects or motives behind the shooting. The tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in Chicago and the devastating impact it has on the community.
