On the night of May 1, 2021, 37-year-old Travis Willis, an African American male, was fatally shot during an altercation in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side of Chicago. The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. in the 11800 block of South Lafayette Avenue. Willis was standing outside with a group of people when he began arguing with another male.
The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which the other male, later identified as 32-year-old Larry Scott, pulled out a gun and shot Willis once in the head. Willis was transported to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, Larry Scott fled the scene. He was later apprehended in Minneapolis and extradited to Chicago. On July 30, 2021, Scott was charged with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Travis Willis. He was taken into custody at O'Hare International Airport and was scheduled to appear in bond court shortly thereafter.
