Alexander Davis, a 29-year-old African American man from Chicago, Illinois, was tragically killed on July 16, 2021, in a shooting incident in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. when Davis and three other men were standing outside in the 700 block of North Lockwood Avenue. Three individuals approached them and opened fire, resulting in Davis being struck in the head and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed his identity and ruled his death a homicide following an autopsy.
The shooting also left three other men wounded. A 40-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the hip and leg, a 45-year-old man was struck in the leg, and a 62-year-old man sustained a graze wound to the back. The injured men were transported to Stroger Hospital, with the 40-year-old and 45-year-old in serious condition and the 62-year-old in good condition.
In the aftermath of the shooting, two suspects were arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Alexander Davis. Ladarius Scott, a 21-year-old African American man, was identified as one of the offenders and was arrested on September 10, 2021. He was charged with first-degree murder and was scheduled to appear in bond court. Another suspect, Antonio Cole, a 23-year-old African American man, was also charged with first-degree murder. Cole admitted to being one of the gunmen involved in the shooting and was ordered held without bail. He was additionally linked to another homicide that occurred two days after Davis's murder.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were identified through security camera footage and other evidence. The shooters were seen fleeing the scene in a gray Nissan, which was later traced back to Cole. The police continue to investigate the incident, and a third person has been arrested in connection with the shooting, although charges have not yet been filed.
